We had couple of days OFF here in Lebanon on Tuesday and Wednesday for Fitr holiday, the official institutions are still closed today as well because some people celebrated on Tuesday and others on Wednesday and the government should respect them all as a diverse country with many religions and sects (2 days for each sect) but not for private companies, we only have 2 days.
The Fitr is the feast that comes after fasting the holy month of Ramadan.
Fitr Mubarak to all people celebrating it in the world.
First day off was reserved by my mother, she wanted to go to our hometown to bring some fruits. I didn’t complain since I love there anyway, otherwise I would have been grumpy as fuck for getting up early on my day off .

I always love when I leave the city, even though I don’t like to drive and stress myself but there’s no other way I guess.
My hometown “Serjbel” is in Shouf district, Mount Lebanon, it’s around 20 minutes from Beirut if there’s no traffic, I can take you there in 10 minutes of course 😀 and hopefully in one piece 😀 So glad that my mother is the only one who’s not afraid from the way I drive!
We arrived to this house that we still didn’t get to live in since the displacement.
I really feel bad that I’ve spent my entire life wishing to live in a decent house not multiple shared rooms / apartments and rented apartments, and then we have a house laid there, empty and neglected.
Oh well, let’s not turn this into drama.
Of course, first things first and coffee always comes first.
This what we call: Rakwa. The Lebanese Coffee
Then of course I needed to dress for the occasion and prepare myself to cultivate some fruits.
My friend told me “be aware of snakes” and of course my answer was: “Oh dear all the snakes are out there, not here” 😀
This season wasn’t so good for fruits and vegetables, because the spring was rough, lot of rain and hails and this is so bad for the plants in general and you can see the black spots on fruits, it’s just from the outside, the inside is good but for an example, you can’t sell these fruits to customers, they don’t buy it.
Serjbel is well known with the following fruits: Janerek جنارك (probably greengage) and Khokh خوخ (can’t find translation, probably kind of peach) it’s red and round or white and round. More than one kind actually.
And there are also apricots and peaches.
The most famous vegetable there is: White Wide Beans: Fasolia Arida فاصوليا عريضة but the season didn’t start yet.
Many people in these villages live from cultivating and selling Fasolia.
Green Almonds Apricots Janerik Too bad the peaches need more time Khokh خوخ Fasolia -not cooked Fasolia Fasolia – cooked
Since my mother is from the next village as well, we went to visit my grandparents.
Also a place that I love so much and I spent lot of time there after they were back years ago. My uncles and aunts were fighting during “Al Jabal war” that leads to our displacement and this house was full of all kind of weapons and my grandfather didn’t let anyone gets near until we lost the war and they had to run in the wild forests to not be slayed there like the ones who refused to leave.
So old, so tired but still smiling the entire time, my grandparents!
I always forget that I’m their favorite grandchild, so I feel ashamed from not visiting more often after the many kisses and hugs I have from their tired hands.
And of course my candies are always there.

I’m the only one among my siblings that love this place, I have 2 brothers abroad and the third one is also leaving soon and he hates there anyway.
My mother that will kill me if she saw this 😀 My poor car haha
My father made foundation for 3 floors so each one can build an apartment but they left for good!
The leaders here have the special skill of making us hate our homeland and hometowns, unfortunately.

Hope you enjoyed! Have a great week ahead! 🙂
Huguette Antoun – June 6th 2019
What a beautiful country you have, it’s tragic that divides have created so much suffering.
Thank you Simon for reading and for the kind words 🙂
Always welcome 🙂
Very nice Huguette! That scenery is breathtaking! Loved the look from the balcony, what a beautiful spot! And your driving didn’t look so bad at all, certainly a narrow road, is that normal width? Looks like a wonderful place really, as far as scenery goes anyway, don’t know what it’s like otherwise. And that’s a short drive too, an easy evening drive. Thanks for sharing this Huguette, hope your day back at work is a good one for you!😃😺
Hello Steve and hope you’re having a good day 😊 thank you for reading and the nice interaction 🙏🏻 glad you loved our hometown
Well the villages roads are even more narrow, this one is good and it gets wider also later on, many people are afraid to drive in the villages roads because of that
Well thank you for the compliment but with a phone in my hand, I must stay focused and drive decently 😁
Yes Lebanon is a small country and we are well known that villages are not so far from the coast but our problem is the traffic otherwise everything is near
Glad you enjoyed and my day is calm because many people still off and this can affect our workflow
Hope your day is great 😊🌞
Good to hear your day is going well and not too busy. Yes, your traffic would be worse than this part of Canada, although summer can be bad for us since it is the main highway going across Canada that comes through here. But still not bad, it’s a wide highway. Looks great there anyway, have a wonderful day!😁🌞
Yes the traffic is sometimes from the lack of good roads and regulations as well
Thank you Steve 😊wish your day will be great and sunny as well 😊🌞🌞
It is definitely a beautiful day today and I am off to try and get some pictures!😃🌞📷
😸😸 📸
Beautiful places and pics and beautiful people. Am so glad you could meet your grand parents Huguette. Love 🤗
Thank you for reading and for your kind words 😊
My pleasure
It must really be wonderful and nostalgic in a sense to visit your home town. I personally don’t have one. But this really gives the positive feels. Well written ♥
Thank you Sid for reading and for the nice words 🙂
🙏🙏😅
Your home town is like Paradise! So beautiful! I loved all the photographs and narration by you!
I loved this post,Hug!
Thank you Ravi for the kind words 🙂 happy you loved our hometown 🙏🏻😊
Cheers dear!
I love this post so much. The view from the balcony is so lovely. All the fresh fruits look delicious. What a beautiful place! Love that you got a few days of rest with your family. The candy at your grandparents is so sweet too! (That is what grandparents do!) Is there a phrase you say to each other for this time off/holiday? Like Happy ____! 💗❤💗🐡🐡
Thank you Elizabeth 😊 yes my mother reserved me for this day, I’m usually with friends 🌞
I love there so much but it’s away from work (even if 20 minutes but during traffic it’s hell) plus it’s not well furnished and so… I will live with spiders and other insects 😊
We say to our Muslims fellows: Eid Mubarak or Fitr Mubarak (eid= feast and Mubarak = blessed)
Thank you for reading 💕💕😊😊🐡🐡🐡
I think is very emotional every time when you go back but what a beautiful place! What a view from that house! Imagine waking up in the morning and having Rakwa with that view! Gorgeous!
Fasolia 😊 Do you know how is called in Romanian? Fasole 😊😊
This Khokh’s leaves looks like plums leaves but I see the translation is peaches 🍑
Grandparents are always the best as no matter how old are you, they’ll still see you as their little granddaughter 💕
It’s sad when they “force” you to hate and leave your country…and I know something about it too 😬
Beautiful place and so nearby, 10 minutes for your drive 🤪
Thank you for this trip into the green 🌷🌸🤗🤗
Thank you dear Ribana 😊you knew before this post and now you see the pictures 😁 oh I love there! My best part is having a rakwa of coffee on this balcony! Morning hearing the birds, and night watching the stars!
Fasole 😁😁 oh this is so similar! It’s exactly the same?
I guess it is Plum then 🤔🤔 google kept showing me peaches and in Egypt they call it peaches
Yes my grandparents really love me so much, I was always the perfect child that helped them before I started work, and I spent lot of time there, I love there also so much but I hate the other people there 🤫🤫
You left your country as well, I know you know this stupid feeling, we are stubborn people, especially the old here, they were back immediately to their homes and rebuilt everything
Oh yes poor mother, I was crazy and I made a fight with some driver 🤭😅 I’m a hopeless case 🤣 but gladly she wasn’t afraid, I have her character anyway haha
Thank you for reading my dear, I thought you should see this not only I eat fruits on your behalf hahha💕💕🤗🤗🤗
Exactly! In fact I was very happy to see the trees from which you’ve eaten fruits for me 🤣🤣 Thank you very much! I’ve eaten them myself enjoying your pictures 😊😉This is something that we don’t do everyday 😉😊
Yes, yes fasole is the same 🤪 funny 😊
Yes, is very difficult for old people to leave their house…and not only for old people 😬🤗
But I can understand, that place is really beautiful and seems so peaceful. You should consider doing something with that house…can transform it in your weekend retreat into the nature 😉 🤗 and rent it for friends too 😉🌸🌷🤗🤗
😁😁😁 hope you will visit lebanon and then you’ll eat real fruits and have rakwa of coffee on balcony 😊
Actually one of our relatives wanted to rent it but my parents don’t want anyone to live there before them, before the displacement, they didn’t live there, they were preparing to move and then that’s it!
I invite my friends of course but it’s their house 😊 the problem that it needs to be furnished, we have some used furniture only to manage when we have to sleep and so but for me it’s really a loss not enjoy it!
It’s always difficult and on anyone to leave their houses! It’s unfair and painful 😣
Hope your evening is great and the food is delicious 😋 🤗🤗💕💕
I hope so 😉😊. But do they plan to go and live there or?
Oh yes, dinner was super delicious this evening: shrimps and baked pumpkin 😉 Now almost time for a good sleep since I’m a morning person 😉 Wish you a great afternoon and a lovely evening! 🤗🤗🌸🌸
They can’t currently 😕 hopefully they will be able soon
Yummy this is delicious 😋
Sleep well and have a good night 💤 🤗🤗❤️💕
Beautiful pictures and a nice short video of your drive too. Glad to know that you went to your hometown to enjoy time with family.😃
Also, I hope your mom sees this post.😜
Thank you Priya for reading and for the nice interaction 😊 she doesn’t have any access to this blog at all so I’m fine 😎
My pleasure. 😁
Ohh so no drama, sad.😜😂😂
Nope no drama for today 😎 will compensate for you some other day 😂
Yup. 😂😂
We feel from the very first lines of your story “which is for us a journey to the land of cedar”, your love for your native region and of course for your country…. And how not to be! Greenery and beautiful landscapes as far as the eye can see…. And as they say “the green leaf soothes the mountain” imagine the effect of greenery on human beings ! good holiday Huguette
Thank you Sofiane for the nice words and interaction 🙏🏻 we are lucky with the greenery and beautiful landscapes! Oh yes they certainly do and their effect on human
Thanks to you
Is much more as well! (Sorry comment went incomplete)
Good holidays to you as well and have a great time 🙂
I love my hometown too. Earliar there used to many people living there, all from our family and I used to have fun. Now of course I love the place and there are only my grandparents there. So anyway, I loved to read about your little trip. The place is so wonderful and beautiful. There are no mountains here so I can only dream what fun it is to wake up to the serene scene. I have to visit your country as soon as I can. Thank you for your information. U hope you spent a lovely time there😊
Thank you dear for reading and your interaction 🙏🏻 this is true people leave their hometown so they can study and work sometimes and yes green and mountain are really amazing! I had a great time there 😊
Hope you will visit our country the soonest 😊 have a great time 💕
Thank you so much for sharing, I love it. Wow…Beautiful. I’m so glad I got to read about your country, I hope I will see more of it later❤️
🦋
I wish you a wonderful day.
Thank you dear Lillian for reading and for the lovely comment 😊 glad you loved it and I will try to post some more whenever I have the chance 😊❤️
Have a great afternoon 🦋😊
❤️thank you my friend.
😊❤️
What a lovely place, beautiful sceneries with lot of fruit trees and good atmosphere. Spend with ma and grand parents that is really graceful.
Thank you for stopping by 🙏🏻so glad you loved it 😊 yes it was a a great time
Welcome! Have a nice day! 👍
same to you 😊
Your poor car😁😂
Visiting a hometown is always enjoyable as we have a lot of memories attached.
Loved the greenery throughout the post and your driving😀😁😂
Why would your mom kill you for that? ( didn’t understand the joke there)
Oh very poor car 😂😂
Thank you Sohanpreet for reading and glad you loved it 😊 yes I have at least good memories at my grandparents place, couldn’t have memories before the displacement…
Because my mother doesn’t like me to publish her pictures so I have chosen one showing her back only 😁 I will not tell her
Oh I thought its you😂
hahaha oh we almost have the same shape, my mother was always thin and in shape, at some point she was thinner than me also 😂 she doesn’t eat junk food and hates to eat in restaurants, all homemade unlike me I eat any shit 😂
You should learn from your Mom 🙂 She looks young
So I’m not young ☹️☹️you mean I’m ugly ☹️🥺🥺🥺
That was a joke 😂😂 I try as much as I can hahah
You are young too 🙂 🙂
I was being silly 🙃 thank you dear 😊💕
🙂
Lovely post🌸😄
It was such a nice experience reading it…
Last time I visited my hometown was around 6 years back. It’s as lush green and scenic as yours. feeling nostalgic😄
Thank you for reading ans for your nice interaction 😊 it’s always great going back to hometown and certainly nostalgic 😊 have a great time
My utmost pleasure 😄🌸
Your birth place is so beautiful, sadly u hate becoz of ur leaders. But didnt fail to notice u did drive good, and thanks for sharing all the pictures and balcony view. Felt like u took us with u for a personal tour. The mountains beautiful house and candies loved everything 🥰✨👍 Hope u enjoyed your OFF ✨
Thank you Simon for reading and for the nice interaction 😊 yes I drive good but I’m crazy that’s it and it’s not showing in this video certainly
Actually I love there but didn’t have the chance to live there because of the war…
Glad you loved our hometown, oh yes it was a great day 😊 thank you 🙏🏻
Thank you Huguette. You always respond to everyone’s comments. I like that habit of you. I Admire it 😉 Keep inspiring.
I don’t certainly preach what I don’t practice and people took time to read and comment, so I should respect that, it’s something I should do actually 🙂 you are a respectful blogger, you really read and this is something I truly appreciate 😊
That is a great motivation for me. Thank you so much. Im grateful 🥰☺️
My pleasure it’s the truth 👍😊
This on is very special, isn’t it, dear Huguette?
I can feel all the emotions, feelings, the joy, nostalgia, sadness, longing… Thank you so much for sharing such a personal journey!
I relate even more with you… Love to see that special place, and I cannot stop thinking how much we have in common! It’s wish I could be there picking that fruit, breathing that pure air and the natural beauty …❤❤❤💞
Very special indeed dear Sonia 😊 I guess you’re from the few who can sense these emotions and not just read blindly
I wish you’ll visit us and you’ll pick that fruits and breathe the pure air 😊 I’m sure you will enjoy a lot!
Thank you for stopping by and feeling this journey not only reading it ❤️❤️😊
How could I not?! I was reading your words and I could see myself coming home… The feelings, emotions, state of mind you describe Huguette are so familiar to me… ❤️
Well real feelings and emotions are the same everywhere I guess ❤ or at least for real people 🙂❤
What a beautiful place Huguette and its a tragedy rhat you didntget to live in your new house…wars r so wrong on so many levels. Lovely pictures. Thoroughly enjoyed reading the post and Happy eid.
Thank you for reading and for your kind words 😊 yes it’s sad but nothing to be done actually, it’s good we still alive and we didn’t lose family members…Glad you loved the place and appreciate your kindness ❤ 😊
Doesn’t matter where i’m coffee comes first always🤗i have never seen this kind of preparation of the coffee, doesn’t matter how the fruits looks like, is all about the taste, i use to buy in at the markets very beautiful fruits, which had no taste, your mum lives in beautiful place, i like nature and seems the houses are not glue to each other, your mum would kill you if she saw this? what exactly? Didnt understood :)naked foot?😂
Thank you dear Ilona 😊😊 coffee on this balcony is heavenly!
Yes the taste that matters that’s for sure 👍
We were bringing them for us anyway not to sell 😊
This is my parents house, we were displaced and they didn’t live in it, and until now they didn’t manage to, they just visit it from time to time , the house is alone and has a private road
It’s because I published her picture and she doesn’t like to publish her photos but I chosen one not showing her anyway 😁
Thank you for stopping by 🙏🏻😊
Finally understood😁is not point to sell them if they taste good, in todays world people trying to sell rotten potatoes and good ones is less accessible😁
Oh yes stupid world I guess 😁 when the production used to be huge, my parents sold them but not nowadays
Why is always looks like life before was better?
Because it’s the case, everything was better before 😕
😯
Thank you for the tour of your hometown – the countryside looks absolutely beautiful and greengages (Janerek) are my favourite fruit (you don’t find them in the UK very often).
Thank you Julie for taking this tour 😊 well I wish I can export some greengages to UK 😊We have an abundance and it’s bad some are just falling down from trees
Happy you loved our hometown 🌞
Have a great evening!
And you Huguette 👍😊
🙏🏻😊
Hello beautiful Huguette , what a wonderful landscape 😍, you know how it feels good when you pick fruits yourself from the fields ? I Love that feeling ❤ (Producteur , consommateur 😉) like you , I spent this holidays visiting sibling , friends, chilling 💆🏻♀️ I went into a peaceful place in the countryside with my family , it was so relaxing and refreshing ❤
Your pictures made me hungry 🤤 I am a big fruit LOVER 😍

Hello dear Souad 😊😊 happy to know you had good holidays in countryside with siblings and friends! sounds great 😁

Thank you for stopping by 🙏🏻
Hope you’re doing great and you’re having a great weekend 😊 much love to you ❤️😘
Wow I am soo happy with the videos and photos. You know me I love those things, this post is soo personal. Bringing us to your hometown and sharing us the back story of the house, I love it. You do indeed have a story to tell. Thank you for sharing.
So glad you loved them 😊not professional videos or photos just spontaneous!
Thank you for reading and for appreciating this post and the story as well 🙏🏻😊
same here, I don’t have professional photos or videos, but what’s important is our intent to share stories, experiences, and emotions that may inspire readers. 🙂
Yes sure it is 😊😊 hope your weekend is great
I am working this weekend girl 🙂 🙂 Where you planning this weekend?
Oh sorry to hear so 😕 out with friends and probably day on beach tomorrow
So I am soo envious 🙂 🙂 enjoy your day out. Get some fresh air so you have the energy for Monday. 🙂
Then I shouldn’t have told you I guess 🙂 will do for sure 👍
lol looks like that would be a better idea instead. 🙂
😊😊🌞
So many emotions packed in one post… Painful to read about war and loss, longings… But life goes on as you already know it better.. 🤗🤗🤗
Yes sure life goes on 👍 thank you for reading 🤗❤️
It’s very beautiful
Thank you for reading 🙂
It’s my pleasure
Wow!! The scene from balcony is so nice…Very beautiful place!! .glad to know that you went to your home town to spend time with your family 💕💕
Thank you for reading and for the nice interaction 😊 glad you loved it 💕😊
Welcome 😻
Agree! 8 am is the middle of the night for me because I usually go to sleep 5 or 6 am.
I mentally noted to ask what “fitr” is but I should have learn by now that you won’t finish a post without explaining haha 😀
Ya! The white car on the curve was to close for comfort!
And the view from your balcony is beautiful! Love all the pictures! Oh my gosh I want to visit your place! And I’m telling your mom the url to this post so she can see your candid shot hehehe 🤭
I miss my grandfather too, but no matter what I do, I can never hug him again… ☹
Thank you for reading dear Jess and even if you shared the link, my mother will probably not notice it 😂 she’s not into technology and doesn’t understand English so don’t bother you snitch!
This white car is nothing in comparison on what we face here on roads haha
you’re welcome to visit dear Jess and enjoy the view from balcony 🙂 Sorry for your grandfather, this is life unfortunately, I always think that it might be the last time I see them actually
Aw that’s too bad. 😦 I was already fantasizing what kind of look your mom will give you 😂
I can only imagine in the Philippines is like a jungle with almost no discipline. I drove like a scared cat before I finally gain confident to drive carefully. I’m I’ll faint inside your car hehe ^^
Yeah, age is hard to fight. But I wish for your grandparents to live longer with your family 🙂
😂😂 she doesn’t need this link to give me looks haha I can always annoy her and give her reason to
I learned to drive as if I’m in a jungle so I don’t know how if I can drive in civilized country haha 😆 of course you will faint, that day with mom a driver tried to hit me and then to cause me an accident and I followed him and then while chasing him I started to shoot him video so he got scared and ran away but my mom wasn’t afraid just a bit on me so….😌 my daily life
Thank you for your wishes 😊, we certainly can’t know these things for sure, with the way I drive I might die today 😂
Oh no I hope not! I lot of us will grieve if we don’t get to speak more with you.
And that’s one tough mother you got. Haha 😀
hahaha you will open champagne I know you 😂 Yes I guess I have some traits from her, she’s just afraid on her kids otherwise nothing scares her at all!
Haha Oh fine, as long you insist then I will 🤪 But you know there’s a saying in my language “Masamang damo mahirap mamatay” meaning “Weeds are hard to kill” I pride myself for being a weed and I have a feeling we’re of the same kind hahaha 😂
Yes probably it’s true I guess 🤔🤔🤔🤔 I’m unkillable (is that even a word😂)
I think it’s a valid word. It’s sounds like… haha
😂😂💕
I never thought about trying Lebanese food until now. I just checked to see if there are any Lebanese restaurants in my area. There are a few, so I will try one soon.
Lebanese food is so delicious not because I’m lebanese but it is, the thing that I don’t know if the restaurants abroad provide the same quality and taste but try anyway and let me know 🙂
The source of their ingredients might have an important influence on their dishes.
There are complimentary reviews online about the restaurants I checked out.
I will let you know the result once I have dined. 🙂
Oh well let me know then 🙂
