You Ridiculed Even Our Dreams

October 15th 2012, my first post on WordPress. The time I was blogging alone thinking that this is even blogging!
This post was written and published in 2010 in the Lebanese Newspaper Annahar (Nahar Ashahab), it’s a political article about our internal problems and issues, some days they are better and some days they are worse.

https://huguetteantoun.com/2012/10/15/%d8%b3%d8%ae%d9%91%d9%81%d8%aa%d9%85-%d8%ad%d8%aa%d9%89-%d8%a3%d8%ad%d9%84%d8%a7%d9%85%d9%86%d8%a7/
So even if the problem persists, we always manage to live and enjoy life as much as we can.

I stopped writing political since 2012 because I just gave up on this country and government.
I’m re-publishing this post because I promised the fellow blogger Ilona https://easydiet.blog/ to translate it and publish it and I started immediately but then was caught up with many posts and then was busy for 2 weeks. (Sorry don’t know how to pin a name or a post)

So hope you will enjoy even though the topic is not enjoyable.

English Translation:

You Ridiculed Even Our Dreams!

Sometimes we wake up from the middle of our sleep because of an annoying dream or a feeling that we’re falling down or stumbling. Then we sleep again. It’s a normal thing that happens with most of people. But it becomes unnatural if it happens over and over until it becomes a nightmare that engulfs our life!

And this is what’s happening in our country, Lebanon.Every day shakes and nightmares that jiggle our being! There is no comfort and no promising signs or better tomorrow.

Since I reached the comprehension age, I know that we have electricity’s problem, water, sewage, traffic, unemployment, security and, and, and they always say: “Yes, we are a country that is just come out from war”.

Now we are in 2010, the war was over long time ago but the country is still in darkness, even worse than the days of war and the falling of missiles on our heads!

No electricity, No water, during a very hot summer in which the temperature exceeds 40 degrees, in a precedent that has not been repeated in decades, in a month where a group of Lebanese fast, they live like prisoners in hot cans, cannot even find cold water!
At a time when a citizen is hardly finding a price of a loaf, he’s forced to throw away this loaf and throw away the foods he needs because of the lack of electricity.
No water to shower in hot and deadly weather and he is in the country of water and rivers! He could not sleep and had to leave his house to some neighbor house, if any, because it happens that this neighbor has a subscription to the generator, which lights up part of the house, the fan and perhaps the TV, “but better than a nothing.”

Are we in the 1914? Are we in the world war? Oh no we’re in Lebanon! It doesn’t matter in which year we are, this story will never end! As in in the past centuries and until now, the Lebanese dream is limited to a loaf of bread, a flash that lights his house, a refrigerator that actually functioning so “no food is thrown away” and a small fan or heating device so he doesn’t die from heat or from cold.

You ridiculed and still ridiculing our dreams!

I sympathize with the people who burned and burning the tires from the depth of their pain and heartache, hunger and suffering even though I do not agree with burning tires and increase the problem in the middle of this heat and shit.
What you have to do is to rebel all over the Lebanese regions, whatever is the side you belong to, to go down  to the streets, to step down, restrain from doing everything until the impostors who rule us fall and if necessary to overthrow them by force!

After hunger, water and electricity, comes the traffic and the roads.

We walk on roads that do not resemble to roads, potholes in the middle of the highways, extreme darkness to test your eyes in the dark! Roads in a permanent workshop status “Today there’s a road, tomorrow there’s no road!”.
The element of surprise is what our government loves.
It makes no difference whether we are in war time or peacetime. When you ride your car, you are more like a soldier saying farewell to his family before leaving to war because you may return and may not return!
Our cars have become mobile coffins in a country that least we can say about its roads and driving: “A Farm with no law and no safety in it”

Sorry, Minister of the Interior, but the law that you strive to apply, is not applied! People die every day on the roads and most of the time because of the mistakes and foolishness of others! They’re constantly burning from anxiety, they suffer, they are subjected to accidents that may not be fatal but humiliating and painful.
Which traffic law do you intend to apply? Do you see how the Lebanese drive? Do you see the trucks driving to the left of the highway and in vain you try to make them open the way for you to pass? And like them, the driver that decided to have a promenade with his girlfriend and when you flash to him to move or you use the horn, , he just ignores you or stretches out his hand out of the car as a sign of, ” what do you want! Fuck off!”

Do you see the smart drivers who throw you on the side of the road with their zigzag driving skills that they master it perfectly of course without estimating the consequences! To no mention the people who were killed recently because of some smart drivers who were not held accountable for their crimes, and among the victims: “Lilian Attalah” may her soul rest in peace, her only sin is that she rode her car and went to her work which is a great sin in this country!

Is this a country or a farm? You answer me and tell me which law you are applying? If you are waiting for some people to respond willingly you are wrong!
Therefore, sanctions were founded and strictness in their application as well without nepotism! Not what’s happening actually where the offender initiates to answer: “Are you aware with Whom you are speaking?”
Screw a law that applies only to the poor and to those with no power and money!

When I die, donate all my organs for poor, except my middle finger! (we are funny people haha)

And so the Lebanese forgets the worries of his humiliating life, the day does not pass without armed clashes.
He forgets the disaster with a greater calamity!
It’s just a simple individual problem, its background is parking one of the cars and during it, Kalashnikov and RPG were used!
If this is an individual problem, what weapons are used in a state of war? Nuclear?

This incident happened last Sunday and it still not solved because people died

Oh, to the farce and to the disgust! Whenever two people fight, the region turns into a battlefield and the lives of the citizens and their property are held hostage by their hands and at their mercy until the orders come and allow the army to intervene! And which interference?

All the peoples and nations of the world have passed through wars and crises that serve as the pre-labour pain, to a new birth and a dignified life, except in our dear country Lebanon, pre-labour pain is continuing, the birth is complicated and “everybody gets pregnant, they deliver in our country! (Figure of speech)
“We sleep on peace to wake up on a war, we take up arms against each other if the situation in the Bahamas is exploded! We are strong merely in killing and harming our brothers in the homeland … hatred that has no cure souls sick with sectarianism and subordination!

And what else to add? What words can be added yet? We no longer dare even to have dreams,
we no longer have the ability to hope for a better tomorrow
What distinguishes us from animals? I do not mean to insult any human being and any individual at all, but I describe a cruel reality every Lebanese lives and anyone who claims the opposite or consider my words so pessimistic and exaggerated, must answer me and refutes my words with other facts!

We Dream of things that should be our most basic rights: water, electricity, safety, order, and living in dignity!
We dream of what we have to get from a country that sucks our blood with the taxes it deducts… But we only get insult and death!

You ridiculed and still ridiculing our dreams!

I will only pay the travel tax because I’m traveling and not coming back!

You don’t care about an entire nation; you just work to increase your wealth while people die from hunger, heat, cold and chaos! You are eating on our dead bodies, you are living on our shoulders, you are devouring our flesh!  You are displacing our youth, trampling on us until you rule, then you steal our money, you mess with our homeland, with our life and you kill our dreams!

The People Money!

You are a disgrace to us! The history will be ashamed of you!
We are ashamed that our children will read a history mentioning your names!
This history that will be written the way you decide it and will be punctuated by lies and hypocrisy!

And we are guilty for electing you, guilty for believing you…. Guilty … and we are paying a huge price!

Thank you for reading, your thoughts are always welcome 🙂

  1. This post is very expressive and intense. It concludes a lot…
I feel pretty lucky that I’m able to read the Arabic version. Labanese sayings are just not the same when translated (superb translation by the way)…
I love this sentence, “!

We must admit that we are at fault at times. We do not protest unless by theory, which is by tweeting something or posting something on FB. It may enlighten a single candle, but it won’t probably reach those of power, those of money. As NF once rapped, “Actions speak louder than words. It’s pretty quite, isn’t it?”
Words DO change, but they MUST be aligned by some kind of actions, like improving yourself and the close ones around you. Of course, citizens aren’t the only one to blame. After all, a minister was once a citizen as well. The system IS to blame. The system has so many loopholes like bribes because come on! Greed will always be a part of being human. It just matter whether we act on it or not. What I’m trying to say is two wrongs don’t make a right. We’ve gotta fix both sides; we gotta fix US, then THEM. It all starts with you.

    Thought-provoking post 👍

    1. I saved this one from SPAM 🙂 Thank you Nour! Sara7a I love to hear the opinion of people that understand Arabic more, because you know Arabic is more powerful or maybe because I’m better in Arabic
Your lines are also my favorites, I always aim for a powerful ending and message in my articles…glad you loved it!
it’s really a very complicated issue, you called it the system and it’s nearly impossible to break it while we’re the ones who created it! and then there are games that are bigger than us (what a coincidence, today is the 4th of July hahaa) and when we woke up it was too late, many minions are protecting this system and we’re powerless! it’s not a pretext, I always believed that people can change until I fed up, nothing is changing…only few people cannot change, we need solidarity and here it doesn’t exist, we have sectarianism , it’s so strong! many tried but failed so they left for good…I really don’t know what to say, we are in a vicious circle. For me no hope anymore
Thank you dear Nour for appreciating such work 🙂

      1. I’d be damned if this ended up in spam 😂
        Yeah it is indeed powerful.

I do the same thing in my poems. It always feels like BOOM!

It’s just that we’re singing the same old tune. It’s kinda tiring. I mean, if you had all the money in the world, what would you do? Okay, you bought a house the size of America as a state, and you solved the problem of hunger, and you can buy anything you want. Then..?

This cycle won’t end. I just know it.

        My pleasure ☺

      2. Exactly, what money can do? you can but another nationality! In some respectful country…this is my answer
Oh don’t worry I check the spam always especially when I’m on computer because it’s not possible from phone 🙂

      3. Money can do a lot of good things. And just as much as bad things. You can check ’em from the app or from the internet, actually. On da phone I mean

      4. Yup. I just go to comments and it shows me the ‘all’. I press the arrow that will display the rest of the list: bin, pending etc.

Even if the entire nation goes out in the streets trying to change things, But the sad truth is that nothing is going to change , these Politiciens bastards are holding into power like parasites , it’s the same situation we live now here in Algeria
So proud of you Huguette and your commitment . Lets keep dreaming for a better world even if they keep destroying our dreams ❤

    1. Thank you dear Souad! Our curse right? to be born here…what to say, even though this was written 9 years ago but still we have same issues and more have been added! The corruption has ruined our countries…
Appreciate your valuable time to read and your kind words ❤ and hopefully one day we’ll be seen and respected as human beings in some place in this big world ❤

      1. Yes I keep saying that , we are cursed there is nothing to do , and frankly, I’m losing the hope that one day we’ll be able to find a spell for defeat this curse , unless there will be a miracle 🤣🤣
Always a pleasure to read your posts Huguette 😘

  4. 😔❤️😔❤️😔 I’ll keep doing my part here in this little corner of the world. I’m with you, my dear friend. 🙏🏻

    1. Thank you Nina 🙏🏻 so kind of you and don’t worry no need to be sad , it’s an old article even though not so many things have changed 🙂💕

  5. I’m not much of a reader of articles but man, that was one of the most interesting ones I’ve ever read! Congrats on 7 years of blogging btw.

    1. The last part about it being our fault for electing them really applies to my country but we can’t do anything about it since the important people are on their side. I’m not one for politics either but these are things you can’t ignore.

      1. Can’t say that info, sorry… but it’s not that bad I guess here compared to other countries. Just afraid if it gets worse.

      2. Mainly corruption and hiding away quite serious things but nothing like war has happened yet…

      3. no worries, yes in some countries is always worse than others, for us also it’s good in comparison to some other countries. we still manage to live normally

    2. Thank you for stopping by then and I can understand, political articles are not many people favorite 🙂I do appreciate your words and basically started real blogging from December 2018, the blog was inactive from 2012 until 2018
But thank you for noticing 😊🙏🏻

  6. This is genuinely annoying. I don’t know what to say but I hope it gets better once new people come up to the top as ministers (with literacy rate increasing everywhere). All the best to your country 😀👍💙

  7. Good evening Huguette, thank you so much for translation, i know, that mostly people are checking the last posts, so i did on purpose, i went and i checked old ones, i’m always curious to see very first post of other bloggers. We cant avoid all the problems, we have to enjoy life even we get some troubles.
It happened to me when i get up at 4am all wet from the sweating, because of the crazy dream and sometimes i cant even remember what kind of dream it was, but happens not very often ones a month or sometimes ones in 3 month. Pictures before war looks beautiful, after the war is always many problems, but when the things falling on our heads its really dangerous. I have never understood the point of war, not before like 100 years ago and specially these days. Someone need more power, more money, land, oil, because of hate of rules or government. Must be difficult to live in this kind of condition, we here at 38 and we have all, and we still complaining, your article makes me think, that i should complain less about things kind things. I feel sorry for people, they didn’t asked for war. And in this kind of condition you still have to work, but here it comes the route problems as well.
How people can live, letting children to school, husbands or wives to work by nothing, that they may not return, work needed, there is no choice, but its crazy whats happening. I’m curious how does minister goes to work? by plan?
Its so i dont even have works, how someone who has brain can even apply such a law, which doesn’t works at all, or at least change it if you see, that it doesn’t works. I think he just closing his eyes and he prefer to dont watch what happening outside his ¨perfet¨life. I feel sorry for your neighbour and i started t worry for you as well.
When I die, donate all my organs for poor, except my middle finger!😁 i have noticed, that you are funny people😁
Video… STILL happening this kind of things someone just come and shoot and i’m not sure if innocent people died, but if it happened is so wrong, why they cant solve problems in other ways, how even this kind gun can be accessible to everyone?

    1. Good evening dear Ilona and thank you for reading and for this interaction 🙂 This is my first post, now you know the meaning 🙂 which is not so cool
Most days we live normally, most Lebanese pay 2 bills: electricity that barely comes and generator, we do everything to live normally, but as I said it’s a chaos and most laws are not applicable, all ministers and deputies move in convoy and they don’t let anyone close their way! They are thieves and they are ruling to steal and have power and money this is why the country has deteriorated like that!
Most areas are divided, each one is ruled by certain religious party, they practically own the place and know everything that happen, and they all have weapons! so this incident in the video is between 2 parties from the same religion “Druze” for political conflicts this incident happened! just last Sunday and then they closed the roads with burned tires and people were stuck there for hours!
1 day before I used the same road to go to the wedding..
So basically we go out, eat outdoor, go to pubs, beaches, resorts…everything is normal but we pay double for everything and we don’t have our basic rights…war finished in the nineties and they still didn’t solve the electricity problem, the water, the traffic, the garbage….it’s a mess!
enough said I guess so I don’t want to bother you more with details, appreciate your time and care so much ❤

      1. At least you still can go out, but you know still scary you never know who will decided to come with guns and to deal with each other, and some innocent people can get killed just like that. We do have here manifestation, dont know if you heard about yellow jackets, but it was also crazy. Thank you for sharing you life experience and whats happening in our place, other wise i would never know. Here we have some bad areas, but far away to be similar problems like in your country. I dont feel comfortable to compare. Because is different situation here, sending hugs, power, and stay save❤️🤗

      2. Yes we live normally and we hope such incidents don’t happen near to us that’s it, innocent people always pay the price
Yes of course the yellow jackets moved to all the world also here we had few manifestations under the yellow jacket title…I hope they achieved something there, it took some period of time
thank you dear, appreciate your kind words and support as well as always ❤️🤗

      3. They achieve a few things and when hey saw, that buy doing it they can get more they just couldn’t stop, they wanted more and more after. You are welcome always interested in your content🤗❤️

  8. I hope, that Lebanon, will reborn again and, that all those problems will be solved one day. I would be okay to give the birth there, honestly, because what kind of life the child can have? Even if you give him all your love, still, you can keep him closed in the room, he will see the horror whats happening you can remove all environment from him. So i dont understand why people still doing that. Have you ever consider leaving the country?

    1. With the current government it’s not possible and last election brought the same people! I elected candidates from Civil Society and nobody won all over Lebanon! It was a disaster, they made a law that brought them all the same :/
Having kids here is a challenge! you raise them they grow up and they leave! Sure I wanted to leave many times, I knew it’s the only way but for emotional reasons I stayed…And I admit it was a very wrong decision and now I don’t care anymore to be honest

      1. I think all the governments doing a lot bullshit, just get profit for themselves, they care only about they own ass, maybe not all, but well we can see the results. Kids leaving for their own good i guess, if you feel emotionally attached, when is good decision to stay❤️

      2. Good morning 🙂 Hope you’re good today
In general they are the same but some give their citizens the basic rights and this what we’re asking here
yes we have Lebanese abroad more than we have in Lebanon! 7 millions in Brazil, 3.5 millions in Argentina and thousands in Canada, Australia and all over the world! while in Lebanon the population is 4 million
I don’t know about the decision but some things are meant to be I guess…
Have a good day and weekend ❤

      3. Good morning yes, went out until is not to hot😁, yes even here in my city we have kinda a lot of Lebanese people, we are very mixed here also we have many chinease and russians, while you talk from home to work you can heard and see many different languages and nations, this is why i loved it here, because france is open and welcoming😊😋😎

      4. Yes nowadays you find many nationalities in many countries due to immigration and wars and so
Glad you love the place you live in, it’s very good 👍😊

  9. Intense Post ! People here suicide for money and hunger. In this post people have nothing, No peace, No power, No water, No safety and yet they are LIVING. People here depressed for their dent in dream, There people have no dream, No hope for a tomorrow. Something Called Politics, I hate this at any country. These politicians are i can’t express what i have in my mind. They are the worst. I see no single politician does their job for people sake. People are on streets and what else they did. This is a reason i hate reading/watch news. Blood boiling post even its old, With such situation outside, People have to work for their living, travel with no hope of returning home, Everyday is a hell, Feeling sorry for people doesnt going to change anything at all. I hope the situations are better after 7 years now at 2019. Ever thought of moving to other country? Why do you even still there if there is no improvement.

    1. Thank you Simon for taking time to read and interact! We are survivors and we love life, yes this side exists but we also have many other good things, it happened this post was targeting specific problems and I translated it as is but yes we are living and enjoying life as much as we can with what we have….
I have the same feeling for politicians and it’s too bad, the problem is worldwide! They are not doing their jobs…I stopped writing politics since 2012 and I hardly watch the news…Only to see if there’s a danger in some area or traffic or else
I thought to leave long time ago and then I stayed for emotional reasons, now I don’t care anymore but I wish I have left long time ago..
Appreciate your contribution despite the topic is blood boiling
      Have a good time 🙂

      1. Can understand the reason why you stayback there. Real Life Survivors for Love. This is social media. We all think each are living a better life knowing nothing about each other, but on the other side it is dark. glad you shared it with us. Enjoy your every little moments with your loved ones and✨ LIVE FULLY ✨

      2. Oh yes, social media is a fake image and we shouldn’t take it as a reference to judge how much people are happy and satisfied
appreciate your kind end encouragement words as always and hope the weekend will be great 🙂

  10. Awww, oh my.. thank you for sharing and ofcourse your translation into English.
Well, it was like a rollercoaster in emotions, but that’s me..
And I think I leave it there my friend. Thank you for sharing❤️

    1. oh yes we are in a roller-coaster the entire time and we try to enjoy instead of getting scared 😊😊
Thank you for reading dear Lillian and for your kind appreciation ❤

  11. This is such a deep post. It is indeed devastating when you have dreams that others shatter for their own benefit or laziness. Mostly in the name of ‘content with what we have’. A rule that does not apply to the damagers.

  12. You said it right! This was not enjoyable to read but unfortunately is the reality. The sad reality! Yes, is true, every country has their own problems, some manage to hide them better than others….Romania is not far away either…:(…honestly from when I’m out of it I don’t miss it…Sad only for the people that are still living in these country and for their children! Instead of improving I think is keep going down…and the normal people cannot do anything against it…
Is shocking that even recently can see such things…the video from Sunday? OMG!
Sad because are beautiful countries with a lot of resources and could do so well, but as I always said it people ruin everything! We are a virus for this world!
You are young Huguette, I know is emotional but unless you feel you can realize your dreams there, you should start travelling the world….I’m sure you’ll find your place and can go back in vacation 🙂 💕😊

    1. Thank you Riby for the lovely interaction and yes the bitter truth, can’t make it enjoyable! O know that you know what I mean and some countries hide it better or they’re not in the lights so people don’t know about them much, but the middle east is famous! everybody is fucking it up!
Yes last Sunday and if it happened on Saturday (the wedding day) I would have stayed in my car for hours because thy burned tires and closed the roads! The incident is away from my hometown but closing roads is on all people! it’s one main road…too bad really!
Many people left, we have 7 million in Brasil 3.5 milllion in Argentina and around 1.5 in Columbia, thousands in USA, Canada, Australia and all over Europe! In Lebanon we are 4 million only
I really don’t know, I look young yes but not as young as you’re thinking 🙂 It’s okay, some things are meant to be and by staying here, I saved many people from lot of things so I guess it was the right decision for a person that can’t think about themselves at all…maybe this is my message in life 🙂
Appreciate your time and words so much 🤗🤗🤗💕💕💕💕

      1. Unfortunately due to some people that “guide” some countries, people are suffering and they seems really to not care. That people definitely are not affected by what is happening to the normal people, and such they simple don’t care. This is sad! Because they are simply people like us! People to people! Is incredible!
One main road! This is crazy! I understand why you prefer waking to work! I just hope is safe!
Yes, I know I can do my guess but not here 🤪😉
I understand your point and definitely you’ll know best what is better for you! But the most important is to take care of yourself and enjoy your life! 🤗🤗🤗🌸🌸💕💕💕💕

      2. This is really a vicious circle as I see it, nothing seems to get better, we must manage to live and enjoy life despite, well I’m trying as much as I can 🙂
Yes my hometown is in South road, it’s one road and from there you take different deviations to different villages that’s it…
we were displaced once so such events make us really sad and stressed…
Enjoy your weekend and forget about the shitty politics hahaha🤗🤗🤗💕

      3. True! The only thing we can do is to live and enjoy our life as much as we can!
Enjoy it my dear and have a great weekend! 🤗🤗🤗🌸🌸🌸💕💕💕

  13. “You do not care about an entire nation; you just work to increase your wealth while people die.”

The next Prime Minister of the UK will only have his own advancement at heart. The Tories have spent huge sums of money to deny the sick and disabled benefits they are entitled to. In some countries people get killed by bombs and bullets. The UK Government kill their own people by stealth and there is a disturbing media silence about it all.
We are being led down a dark hole.

    1. I remember when reading your posts I was shocked about the UK some behavior and corruption, we usually look to these countries as role models and so…even if they are the reason of most of our conflicts! Oh well another subject 🙂 Thank you Ronnie for your valuable interaction

      1. Thank you, Huguette.

There are two remaining candidates for the position of new UK prime minister. One is a racist, serial liar (Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson) and the other is a National Health Service destroying, expenses cheat (Jeremy Richard Streynsham Hunt).

Honesty is a foreign concept to both of them. Whichever one gets the position (Johnson is the current favourite) it will result in more destruction, but their rich friends will be alright.

      2. Wow how lucky you are with such candidates 😕
Politics is really a very dirty and dishonest game at least nowadays

  14. I hope condition is better now in Lebanon. There are problems in every country. We are talking about new future technologies etc. but at the other side, there are not even basic facilities.
So many people face problems due to corrupt and selfish people thinking only about themselves.

    1. Thank you Sohanpreet for taking time to read and for you valuable interaction 🙂 yes despite the technology in some places, we still have no electricity except few hours per day, all because of the corruption and thieves ruling! too bad! and the situation is not better but we mange to live despite to be honest, that you hardly notice we have such problems! believe me

      1. I mean we’re living normally but none of the problems have been solved you see? We just manage because we are survivors

  15. That was an amazing read Huguette. We in the supposedly developed western countries don’t have much to complain about when seeing something like this. Even though many people complain about our governments and how they are making it hard on certain groups of people, are we really so bad off? Not really, we still have a lot, we just like to complain because it’s not as much as we think we should have. That really stirs my heart reading this, and so long after war too. People in places of power always make sure they themselves are well looked after and they really don’t care much about anything else, until it caves in one day. I hope you enjoy your day Huguette!😁🌞😸

    1. Thank you Steve for taking time to read this sad post and for your lovely interaction 😊 yes we say in Arabic « when you see other’s disaster, yours become trivial or become easy » here we struggle to have everything, we pay everything double and we live in a chaos with the absence of the applicable laws even if sometimes they do apply them but not enough and despite we try to live with what we have and enjoy because nothing to do! Last election brought the same people so we deserve this! Plus it’s a Mafia ruling and whatever we do is in vain! They don’t care except about stealing our money and ruining this country more
Appreciate your contribution and hope your day is good and warmer as well 😺😺🌞

      1. It is so sad to see how corrupt governments can become and yet amazing that they could be elected again. It’s a good day here, somewhat sunny but not a good day for pictures after all. There is very heavy smoke from forest fires here right now, it’s like a very thick fog, blocks the sun and at times it’s hard to breathe. All because of careless people with their camp fires. It is warmer today though so that is nice. Enjoy your afternoon Huguette.😃🌞😺

      2. Yes because most people follow their political and religious party blindly, even if they will in a shitty condition, they still elect them! Too bad
Glad it’s a good day despite the smoke, it’s really a dangerous problem I can’t understand the people ! Too bad not good for pictures I’m sure you have plenty already 🌞 enjoy your day as well and weekend 😺😺

      3. The wind finally came along and blew most of the smoke away, it is still smoky but not nearly as bad, so out I go for pictures.😃🌞📷

  16. WOW> Huguette. I’m speechless. I hoe that things are better now. I can’t imagine all these kinds of daily struggles. It humbles me to be reminded and thankful for everything that I take for granite. I can’t imagine having to pay double for everything like that or to have things not work or work properly after you’ve paid so much! Oh my. My heart is with you. I hope that things have improved. Sending you lots of love and hugs, always. (I’m glad you are showing these posts again.)

    1. Thank you Elizabeth for taking time to read and for your kind words and empathy ❤ so far this is the only life we have and we’re managing as much as we can 🙂

  17. You once post the beautiful side of Lebanon. It appears like a real tourist spot and heaven on earth. But this post makes it clear that, like all other cities, this city also as to communicate its own tragic part. Still Lebanon keeps it’s beauty and charm😊

    1. Welcome back dear Tushara, it’s been a long time hope you are good 😊
We have a beautiful country yes and we are people that love life and we’re managing to live but the truth must be said and it’s too bad we have such rulers, we could be better and do better unfortunately
Thank you for stopping by and for the kind words about Lebanon as well, I appreciate it a lot 😊💕

      1. Thanks a lot dear Huguette for this remark. Yeah, I had been away from WordPress for almost 2 months now. It’s extremely surprising to know that you have noticed or recognized my absense. Feeling much love. 🥰🥰😍😍🤩

      2. Yes of course I notice and I know many are away nowadays for exams reason so hopefully all is good at your end 😊🥰

  18. Absolutely!! This is the reality..
Every country has its own problems. Here in India too there is a lot of corruption, but now the policies of current government have reduced it very effectively..
Don’t worry dear sun will rise again in Lebanon, and all the problems will be solved..

    1. Thank you dear Jyoti 😊 so kind of you to say so and I hope one day we’ll get rid of these thieves…
Problems are everywhere as you said and wish the best also for India so the current generations have better future in their country 🙂
Appreciate your time to read and interact 😊💕💕

      1. My pleasure 🌹🌹 dear Huguette ❤️
Yeah absolutely one day will surely come!!
        Have a wonderful night

  19. Thank you for sharing this article! Heart felt story about your country. I hate the politicians who are making such situations in a country! I regret to say this is happening everywhere. Nobody can question these type of humans. Forcefully some people create problems and they make profit from this! They want to ruin the place for profit! The people have the right to do their work and lead a peaceful life! 👍

      1. I have 2 brothers left for good from around 20 years, the third is waiting for his visa, my parents don’t like to leave, now my father says I wish we left but they are too old now to start over. And I wanted to leave million times but I stayed for emotional reasons and I regret it the entire time

      2. You probably wants to take care of your parents right? That why you probably dont want to move. But if you really want it you are still young, you can still start all over in another country. 🙂

      3. well I didn’t want to leave as my brothers did yes and also for other dear people…I’m not as young as I look by the way but we can start over if we want so badly, the question do I want this badly? I really don’t know 🙂

      4. You have to really want it to be happy at the end of the day. If you are happy and contented of where you are now and what you have that is amazing. 🙂 🙂 That’s the most important part of living – happiness and contentment.

      5. Yes sure you have to want it and things change with years and perspective changes as well 🙂 we must focus on the positive and be grateful and our state of mind will change 😊 hope your days and nights are not hectic

      6. before I read these comment I read your post first. Really appreciate it and will place it in my draft so I can do it once I got a chance. I am excited to answer your questions.

  20. The flip side of life. After having a very good impression of Lebanon from your previous post, this is a sad read. Unfortunately, we can’t run from reality. And though we are guilty for electing corrupt politician, we can’t completely blame the people. They hope and believe for the false promises, the problem is of course on people’s shoulder if they vote the same candidate again.
You wrote this news article in 2010, 9 years ago, I hope that you’re beloved country have it better now 😦
I love empowering this piece is and I wish more power to you Hug.

    1. Yes we still have the other side because we really are survivors or maybe stupid, I don’t know! Our restaurants and pubs and resorts and beaches are always full! These problems are still there, the shooting video is from 2 weeks and they’re still investigating and it nearly created another civil war! But now they play it in politics and try yo calm things down, nobody wants wars…We still pay generator bills because the electricity rarely comes, many don’t have generator as well, basically all the same but we pay to live a decent life because our government give us shit!
I personally didn’t elect them this time, and nobody won from the people I have chosen! The Civil society…But the majority is stupid, they deserve this and the good people are lost among this garbage!
Thank you for reading Jess and for the lovely words of support ❤

      1. Aw, that sounds so tragic 😦
When it comes to me, I don’t vote too, even when the idiot in my country’s embassy is pressuring me. I mean what’s the point in voting when it’s obvious your choice won’t win. Besides, for me it’s starting to feel like you’re simply choosing which corrupt person you want next. Sigh.

      2. probably you are right but you should really vote for whom you think they’re good, the negativity here made the same people win! many didn’t vote because they fed up but the action is always better than doing nothing whatever the result is
